It’s official…the GHS Oldies Reunion 2013 has come and gone, but the memories, the hugs, the laughter, the love of seeing old friends will last us a lifetime. There are so many people to thank who made this event not only possible, but with great enthusiasm worked diligently to make it SUCCESSFUL!

Please help to thank, if you haven’t done so, the 29 businesses and the 16 personal sponsors who generously gave their money/or time to make sure it was a free event for all oldies. A special thank you to Don and Jed Wall along with McLeskey Todd for being our very first CORPORATE SPONSOR!

Special thanks goes to Marney Hannon, Janice and Jerry Brown, Claudette and Jimmy Sullivan and Donna Anthony (Eddie Donald’s better half) who spent the afternoon blowing up balloons and getting them to our various sponsors…….bless ‘em….Jerry and Janice just happened to ride down Trade, and saw that I was not making it very far with the balloons on a windy day…teehee…so I was immediately taken off that duty. Marney just wandered in for coffee (and wished that he had waited another hour) and Donna who didn’t even go to GHS helped us tremendously all week…taking fliers plus helping with balloons….that is a symbol of how GHS rolls… peeps just jump in when needed!!

Lastly, I want to thank again the Core Members of the GHS Oldies group. This idea was started by Gundy Stewart about 15 years ago. He has been instrumental in keeping this fun going all these years with his comical and spirited personality which was in full gear on Friday evening as Emcee of the Storytelling Time. He had whipped the crowd into a frenzy long before the event even took place. His excellent choice of storytellers made it a night to remember!

Theresa Merck did an outstanding job on the blog…..all citizens within internet reach could find out the up-to- date details as they unfolded. Amy kept us informed with her class point person emails and social media outreach as well as coordinating with the Greer Soup Kitchen. It is typical of our folks who think of others who are less fortunate and are willing to give back to hometown community. We couldn’t do without either one of their expertise. Carl Howell was quietly handling all details with the city in his very sweet, kind manner; in fact I think his new nickname should be “the City Whisperer”! Alan Cole and Steve Campbell took care of all the technical details of the evening….spent their afternoon setting up and breaking down afterwards doing a superb job emceeing the Saturday event! Allen and Sue Collins took on treasurer and volunteer coordinator. He kept up with our money, paid our bills and made sure we knew where we stood at all times. Sue took care of getting us into the Cannon with plenty of volunteer help and her organizational skills…we appreciate “the GHS couple” working together to accomplish the task at hand. And a very special thanks to Claudette for being my “personal secretary” throughout these months. I was so fortunate that when we needed a “face to face” meeting or follow-up meeting during regular working hours…..she was my legs and feet on the ground. I have this little thing going on in Spartanburg between 8-5(lol)…..so most of the running was done with her precious self and without any complaining!!

I had the easiest job in the world ….because this was the hardest working group that I’ve ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Hopefully, you were able to see, we did it all for one reason and with one thing in common…our love for you, our OLDIES, our love for Greer High, our love for Greer…without you showing up, what would it have been for? Thanks to all who came, who laughed and hugged, shared memories and returned home KNOWING that we were some of the luckiest folks ever to grow up in such a sweet, sweet town!! I’m humbled and so very thankful to be back home…. and again, as one of "ours" is noted for his "saying" ..... love ya, mean it!
